CPT- GEL 340 Rheology Modifier

GENERAL INFORMATION
CPT- GEL 340 is an organoclay,which has the characteristics of strong versatility and
light gel color.It presents good thixotropic performance and ideal dispersion property in a
wide range of solvent systems.It is suitable to low to medium polarity aliphatic and
aromatic systems. It can work without polar activator in mixed solvents with medium to
high polarity, such as benzene, ketone, ester, etc. It needs to add a certain amount of
polar activator in low polarity system to get good thixotropic property.

INCORPORATION

  • Pre-gel Method(8%-10%concentration)
  • Direct Addition as Powder
    • Mix resin and part solvents
    • Add CPT- GEL 340, mix 10 mins
    • Add polar activator, mix 5-10mins.(No need in medium to high polarity system)
    • Add other additives, pigment

Polar Activator:Methanol/H2O(95/5), Ethanol/H2O (95/5),Acetone/H2O(95/5) are
recommended in 200 # solvent oil or other petroleum solvents, mineral oils, and other
fatty hydrocarbons.
The adding amount of polar activator is usually 20-40% of the amount of CPT- GEL 340. It
is always recommended to determine the proper level of addition by experiment. Either
defect or excess of chemical activator would result in poorer viscosity development.

RECOMMENDED LEVELS
The amount of CPT- GEL 340 rheology modifier required depends upon the type of organic system and the degree of thickening or other properties desired. Addition levels
are typically between 0.2%-2.0% based on the total formulation weight(powder direct addition usage)

SHELF LIFE
CPT- GEL 340 has a shelf life of at least two years from date of manufacture. Store in a cool dry place.
